Bethune’s Capabilities.
A self contained disaster relief ship that combines the benefits of multiple resources
Refugee Centre
The Norman Bethune has on board two large areas set aside for primary refugees who need shelter, or minor medical care. the refugees are supplied with food, beds, child care resources, medicine, mobility resources, and on-board security. When there is secure housing and food supplies in place on land, the refugees are transfered to those facilities. Later in Bethune’s mission these same areas are used for needed physical therapy and rehab.
HOSPITALS
CCGS NORMAN BETHUNE carries two Hospitals. Within the ship there is a complete 200 bed hospital with full pharmacy, imagery, natal and surgery departments. Within Bethune’s hold is a second complete field hospital The field hospital uses customized containers as operating rooms and surgeries. Above the hospital is a promenade deck where patients can get some fresh air.
Bethune is a roll-on, roll-off ship. Where docking facilities exist, she has the capability to drop her stern ramp and unload her life saving cargo directly onto land

Multi-purpose boats
Bethune carries four multi-purpose zodiac boats. These craft are used for moving aid workers and shore management staff where they are needed and to help with moving supplies inshore.
